1. If you could TITLE your personal story, what would that title be?
“If Only I Knew What I Know Now: How to Ask for What You Want and Be Happy”

2.  Does your personal and business life feel well balanced or like a juggling act
– and how so?
I’ve been working more on the balance, as I saw my creativity decrease. When I take time out
for myself, it’s a reward that is comforting, and then I’m ready to get back into the trenches.
I want to look back on my life after raising 3 beautiful girls 19, 22 & 27 with a 5-year-old
granddaughter, that I pursued a career that made me happy, and where I’ve made a
difference in people’s lives by putting a big smile on their face to create new memories. It’s
hard to face the challenges, but at the same time, very rewarding because I’m happy with
what I’m doing—inspiring people to be happy and productive.

3.  What inspires you to do what you do and to inspire others?
Because of the overload of information technology, people have trouble making decisions
because they have too much to do and collect information and things “just in case” they need
it. Clutter causes deteriorating relationships, depression, and overwhelm, that people feel
buried and just exist instead of enjoying life. I understand the decision making process and
don’t try to change the person who’s having the organizing challenges, but to guide, teach,
and inspire them to conquer whatever confronts them through simple techniques and
listening skills.

4.  How do you describe what you do?
I help the ADD and the organizationally challenged community on how to transform
themselves into thinking differently in their emotional relationship with their paper and things,
while improving productivity and effectiveness. My expertise helps shifts the pattern of
ongoing disorganization through coaching, consulting, and on-site organizing through a fun
and nonjudgmental approach.

5.  Who are your ideal clients to work with?
ADD and chronically disorganized professionals ranging from 20-years-old and up, SOHOs,
and small to large corporations.

6.  How does your business benefit your clients?
Clients walk away with a system that is customized based on their natural style, habits, and
emotional way of thinking. I come up with a system based on how the environment is set up,
how you need to see the information, and how it is used, so you won’t end up with a system
you can’t keep up with. I saved a cabinet maker over $30,000 a year, reduced his 16 hour
days, got him home 2 nights a week for dinner with his family, and he was going to church on
Sunday, just by suggesting he use a small notepad to carry in his pocket to write everything
down he had to remember to do, AND it cost him less than $1.00.

7.  What key factors make you a success in your work?
Humor, creativity, openness, patience, understanding, life design support, and clarification to
meet immediate and long-term personal goals and responsibilities. I’m able to work with a
wide range of clients who have had little or no success with traditional organizing methods.

8.   What “behind the scenes ‘success’ strategies” can you share?
Making it simple and fun until it’s done—putting a lifelong system in place by using my
“muttering technique” to design categories based on one’s thinking of how they relate to
their paper and things. It’s the client’s system, not mine. I’m there to help coach them along
the way, giving them emotional and physical support to create an environment that they
enjoy being in. I help people not only get “organized” by to “stay organized.”

9.   Is there anything you have done in your life or business that has catapulted you
to a new level of success?
Receiving Volunteer of the Year through NSGCD for work done for 2 years. But the most
compelling, is the highest credentials in my field of organizing for ADD (Attention Deficit
Disorder) and the chronically disorganized, by receiving my certification as a CPO-CD from the
National Study Group on Chronic Disorganization. I’m 1 of 45 CPO-CDs in the U.S. and
Canada out of 10,000 Professional Organizers.

It took me 6 long years and over 400 hours of educational training to obtain certification, and
that doesn’t even include all my volunteer work. Continuing education is a vital part of my
journey, as it’s an ongoing process to help those that are ready to make a positive change in
their life through nontraditional methods. Yippee!

10.   What inspired you to get in the field of organizing people who had challenges
with ADD and had been disorganized most of their life?
I saw that some people just couldn’t organize themselves in the “traditional way, and ended
up in bigger messes than ever before when they attempted to create a system on their own.

So being a member of NAPO (National Association of Professional Organizers), we had a
speaker from NSGCD (National Study Group on Chronic Disorganization) who explained how
very little help was out their to assist this invisible community, where disorganization was
affecting the quality of their life.

Then I began thinking, “How can I help these people increase their self-esteem and not seek
psychological help where the clutter was controlling their lives?” I know they didn’t need
counseling in many cases, and I wanted to be their support system by redesigning their life
just enough to blend in with my expertise I had to offer, while at the same time, not
changing the person of who they are with compassion, insights, and wisdom.

A Bit "Mo": Evelyn told me that as a teenager, she would get frustrated. When she couldn't
solve a problem, she would go around the house organizing things in each room. It gave her
instant gratification as the effects of immediate improvement were reached. The
reorganization served as a double bonus, because while she was reorganizing things, she
gained clarity in solving her own issues. Without pressure she worked through challenges.
This struck me as a "brilliance within" that was compelled had to come out. This is excellence;
taking her challenge and finding a way to deal with it constructively for herself, turning it into
a needed niche and successful career! My challenge for you is to consider something that you
found a way to overcome and refelct on how that coping strategy has made your life easier...
then give yourself a big pat on the back for doing so!
