| Semi-Short Bio Adversity is No Match for Destiny… Linda M. Lopeke says she is an ordinary person who has been called in life to do some extraordinary things. Because she was born with obvious physical handicaps and not expected to live, her parents were advised to abandon her to an institution for life. They decided to ignore the doctors’ advice and instead took her home to an uncertain future. Many years of adversity and challenge followed but this little baby girl was not one to be denied her destiny! Linda is all grown up now and an internationally recognized leading authority on how to succeed in today's workplace and in any business regardless of obstacles and challenges. She is also a former corporate executive and management consultant known for creating headline-making success stories for her Fortune 500 and small business clients. Linda travels internationally delivering entertaining and memorable keynote speeches on work/life success, the secret world of the corporation and leadership living with style and grace to groups ranging from C- Level executives and entrepreneurs to students attending leading business schools and universities. The Student Becomes the Teacher… Linda believes the most important thing she teaches is “there’s no such thing as luck, there is only preparation meeting opportunity.” Her own career is a testimony to that philosophy. In 1971 she set a world record (at age 17) for being the youngest person, in the history of banking, to lead a major technology implementation. She says that would not have happened if she hadn’t been willing to spend her high school years simultaneously pursuing her post-secondary education in information technology and computer science. That was the preparation. Opportunity came later when the head of the company she was working for decided to take a risk by putting her in charge of the high profile project betting she would deliver no matter what it would take. And she did. At age 29, Linda was named by Financial Post as one of the top 5 entrepreneurs in Canada. She told me that was because she saw a communication gap forming between business users and technology developers and decided to fill it even though the work required to do that, documenting systems and processes, was one of the most hated jobs in the industry. She decided to take it on when everyone else was doing their darndest to get out of doing it, no matter what. Since 2005 Linda has been teaching MBA Master Classes in corporate social intelligence to students attending the world’s top business schools. And she also teaches solo-preneurs and small business owners how to adapt and use the tools of big business to create small business success. Between mentoring others and her work as a syndicated author/columnist Linda reaches a global audience of millions on all five continents sharing the best in business, career, and living-with- style advice. Her most recent project is SMARTSTART Mentoring Programs: Success-to-go for people working @ the speed of life! SMARTSTART is designed to help people do less and have more by providing access to a mentor who has been there and done that so you don’t have to learn all your lessons the hard way. You can save a lot of time and energy just knowing where the best places are to put your effort in developing a career or your business – the places that will get you the highest return for time, expense, and work required. No One Achieves Success Alone… “No one achieves success in a vacuum”, Linda says. She credits hers to the many wonderful mentors who cared enough to “call her on her crap” as she pursued a management career and later her own business. “Without their guidance I could never have experienced all that I have. And I believe it’s important to give back for what you have received by sharing your knowledge and experience with others. That’s why I created SMARTSTART Mentoring Programs. We are using technology and innovation to bring the tools needed to be successful right to you, wherever you are in the world via the internet. We call SMARTSTART Success-to- go for people working @ the speed of life!” For her role in helping professional women reach their career goals and for her contributions in Information Technology, Linda was honored by Women in Information Processing (WIP) and also received the Crowntek Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement in Technology. Her writing has won multiple awards from the Society for Technical Communication (STC). A web site project she led for a corporate client received the 2001/2002 Applied Arts Design Award. Not Exactly Institutional Reading… Linda’s sharp insight, offbeat advice and unique sense of humor and her work helping others be successful have been featured in Harvard Business Review, Harvard Online, The Financial Times, PM Network Magazine, Forbes, The Seattle Post, The Los Angeles Times, The Globe and Mail, Report on Business, Marketwatch and on CNBC, CBS and more. Her detailed biography was published in Who's Who of Canadian Women (1986). But Linda doesn’t care about awards or media coverage. What she cares about is sharing what she knows with others so they too can give themselves “permission to succeed”. And that’s why she authorized me to give you a very special, time-limited offer… Linda has extended a very generous exclusive offer to ACTS of EXCELLENCE subscribers. It is available for a limited time. (And her trusty sidekick, Liberty Belle (her laptop)). SMARTSTART members range in age from 14 to 65 although most are in their twenties and thirties. About 40% of the people in our program are students pursuing university degrees, 35% are already working in their chosen careers and 25% are going after their entrepreneurial dreams. They are all people 100% committed to achieving all they are capable of and who truly want to succeed in a professional career or in business by doing less (the right less) in order to have more. They are getting there up to 3x faster by working with a mentor to guide them on their path and keep them from making fatal career- and business-killing mistakes. |
