"Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!" - sorry, just had to get that
Brady-ism out. If you don't know what we are referring
to, you are probably under the age of 25 and transitions
might not be something you currently think much about
these days...or do you? If over 25, let us refresh your
memory...
Marcia's personal background
3/4 way down this page...
TEEN YEARS: You are smart ...and preparing to put the saddle on the horse.
Do you recall what was most important to you on the day of your high school
graduation?
- Was it a guy / girl?
- A car?
- The party later that night?
- A graduation gift?
- Getting your first apartment or what it will be like to live in a dorm?
Think about it - do you remember what it was?
Was your basic feeling as if you had all the time in the world to fulfill your
dreams?
20's -30 Something: You are smarter and can win any race!
What was the most important thing to you at this time?
Career choice? Marriage? Mortgage? Babies?
30's -40 Something: You're up in the saddle and have a steady gait!
.Now fast-forward to the most recent time in your life that you had a transition
to deal with...
Company layoff? An ailing parent? Death of a loved one?
Divorce or a move? Planning or paying for your childs college or wedding?
OR travel to exciting places, a new home, a promotion?
Yet, If given the chance, at this stage of your life, would you want to trade it in
and be a teenager again? Say your gut answer outloud and acknowledge it!
50's -60 Something: Are you happy to hire a jockey and sit in the winners
circle?
- Does life feel as if it snuck up on you?
- Have you wondered where the time has gone?
- Have you accomplished what you want to?
Do you feel a sense of urgency to:
Travel somewhere? See someone? Actualize a goal or dream?
Be significant in the lives of grandchildren? Recapture a great moment?
- Do you still have dreams?
- Are they as clear to you as they used to be?
- Is your mind as sharp as that high school graduate's mind?
Now, we want to tell you about Marcia Merrill, the "Transition Chick."
Marcia's transitions:
Career: Was a college student, then a career counselor for college students,
than a career counselor for adult returning students, went back to school and
became a training consultant in an engineering firm, went back to school and
obtained Masters degree in Counseling Psychology in her late 40’s, Certified in
Career Management coaching in 1999, and while working at Layola in Baltimore,
MD, became a Job & Career Transition Coach from Adult Development Network
in 2000.
Personal: Big transition as going from an employee to a solo entrepreneur.
Major health issues: Major neurological problems – coordination problems –
counter interactive medications, cannot drive any more, needs to be more
cognizant of getting places and had to learn and accept the need to ask for
help (usually helps others), Married, Separated, Divorced, 2nd marriage.
Fourteen years ago started Tandem-cycling (bicycle built for two) and with
current husband has biked through The Netherlands, New Zealand, Belgium,
the U.S. and is ready for Italy in 2008.
Now, are you ready to transition with meaning in your life?
If so, consider someone who has first hand experience – a good coach pulls the
best out of who you are today…no need to dwell or blame your childhood, it’s
time to work on your future in a sincerely progressive way…time’s a wasting –
you know that! You're not the first person to fall off a horse...you only fail if you
choose not to get back on, right?
"You know what to do; it’s time to get back on. Whether you feel it's
possible or not, if you find the best in what is in you today, chances are –
you’ll win the derby! And, when you do, please email me and let me
know...so I can tell others about how we 'Caught you in the Act of
Excellence' too!"
