1. If you could TITLE your personal story, what would that title
be?
“From Home Designer to Life Designer”
2. Does your personal and business life feel well balanced or like
a juggling act – and how so?
It was a juggling act for so long, until I realized that I can
actually design my own way of doing things. I don’t have to work
the way society expects me to. I now can get my “work” done in
much less time (and the quality has actually increased), and have
much more time to spend with my family. Part of designing my
life was to choose a type of work that involves my family. A lot of
my personal time is spent brainstorming with my husband about
ways to improve our businesses. Because we love what we do so
much, it feels like “free” time, though we are actually getting a lot
of work done.
3. What inspires you to do what you do and to inspire others?
I am inspired by the potential to improve other people’s lives,
to add a positive spin to everything, to help people see the bright
side. I used to think that my role was to help designers make
more money, but over the last year, I have realized that I want to
teach and inspire designers to create more success and joy in
their lives – whatever that means for them.
4. How do you describe what you do?
I teach and inspire designers to create more success and joy
in their lives, through articles, seminars, mentoring, and being a
positive light.
5. Who are your ideal clients to work with?
Decorators (and others in the home fashion industry) who
truly want to take their lives and businesses to the next level,
and are open-minded and committed to take action.
6. How does your business benefit your clientele?
This is what I have been told:
- I help keep them positive. I make them aware of ideas for
getting more business.
- I remind them of ideas that they knew, but weren’t using.
- They learn to like marketing a little more, and even get excited
about it (designers typically love to design, but hate to market.)
- I love to show them how the marketing can be as creative a
process as designing. Then they stop dreading it.
- When they stop dreading it, they look forward to doing it, and
of course, get more results.
7. What key factors make you a success in your work?
My genuine desire to help fellow decorators improve their
businesses and their lives.
8. What “behind the scenes ‘success’ strategies” can you share?
Automate everything possible. Get assistance. Don’t do
everything yourself. Outsource whatever you can.
9. Is there anything you have done in your life or business that
has catapulted you to a new level of success?
I recently co-founded an association for decorators around
North America (Decorators’ Alliance of North America), and it
seems to be an idea whose time has come. The response has
been incredible.
